Snapshots: Manfrotto 190X ProB tripod with 488RC2 ballhead

There I was sitting in the room fiddling with my Nikon D7000 and SB600 flash itching to snap something. Question  was, “What do I snap?”

A friend of mine had just returned my Manfrotto 190X ProB tripod and it was just sitting there staring at me (if a tripod could stare). I decided to do some tripod glamour shots! Ok ok, they’re not glamour shots, just your run-of-the-mill product shots.

The D7000 was set to manual with the aperture ranging from ƒ/2.8 to ƒ/5.6. I used the Tamron SP AF 17-50mm so that I could get both wide and close-up shots. The SB600 was triggered wirelessly with the onboard flash which was set to 0 so that it wouldn’t contribute to the scene. I used Auto-FP so that I could set a shutter speed of 1/500s which eliminated all ambient light (at ISO 100). One thing to note, if you’re using the onboard flash to contribute to the scene’s overall exposure, you won’t be able to shoot beyond the camera’s X-sync speed (1/250s).

The flash was snooted with a grid. A reflector was used in some scenes.
