Rambling on…

What did your parents tell you? Grow up.. study hard, get a good job.. and hope you stay there for the rest of your working career.  THAT DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE.

The longer you stay at a company, the more they take you for granted. More work piles on because you’re the only one who knows the processes in and out. Yeah, sure.. the boss will say, “But that’s because we trust you!” What he really means is, “SUCKER!!”

Are you feeling used? Or unappreciated perhaps? Sure.. you can tell the boss and he’ll say, “We’re doing something about it.” But can you wait? Or is he even doing anything about it apart from just saying so?

But anyway.. I digress. Point is.. it’s an employee’s market out there! There are jobs to be had which offer far more (apart from the usual salary perks) such as challenges, training and career progression. Keep in mind.. sooner or later, you’ll still be feeling used or unappreciated. And when that happens… HOP AGAIN!

Why is it that every now and again, we will see our politicians ever so gracefully shoot themselves in the foot?

In reference to AirAsia’s uniform for their stewardesses. Whether or not he was really referring to the gap between their legs, or whether he was referring to some other bodily orifice, we will never truly know. However, the fact remains that there’s an awful lot of slipped tongues and name calling. What is this? A freaking playground?

Maybe they should just argue the over who gets first dibs on the swing… rather than the important issues and matters concerning our country.

And another thing… if you’re truly sorry and really don’t like offending people with your remarks, you wouldn’t have said it in the first place. This just shows a total lack of disrespect for others.

Here… take a look at a list compiled by Malaysiakini on the various kindergarten antics we’ve seen so far..

Malaysia has gotten a man into space. Or rather, a Malaysian has been to space (as I write this, he’s still in space). A Malaysian has braved the harsh cold of the North Pole and climbed Mount Everest as well. Isn’t it great to be a Malaysian?

What I really want to know is, why does the Malaysian government feel the need to do all these sorts of things? Why is it so important? Why do they feel the need to prove our worth? Afterall, we’re all human, regardless of race or even nationality. We’re all born with the equal ability to achieve greatness. Yet, there’s this glaringly obvious need to feel recognised by the world.

Are these ‘national heroes’ doing it because of the challenge itself? Or to prove to Malaysians that a Malaysian too can do it? If so, then all of these achievements, although great, are made slightly hollow. We don’t have to prove that we can do it. We should KNOW we can do it.

To me though, this space mission is just like our Petronas Twin Towers. If you have enough money, you can buy your way to anything. Pay an architect to design your towers, and pay for foreign expertise to help you build them. Similarly, if you have enough money these days, even Joe Public can go into space.

Why don’t we just put that money to better use. And no, giving our youngsters something to aspire to doesn’t sit well with me either. There are many ways to inspire people, and alot of them less costly too!

To those of you who visit aisehman, then you’d have probably seen this already. But on the off chance that you haven’t, I think this just warrants its own post right here on WTF.

The above is a screenshot from NASA’s website. Notice all the other people in the picture are astronauts or cosmonauts but what about Malaysia’s own contribution to this band of spacemen? He’s a ’spaceflight participant’, whatever that means…

Let me just add that according to Wikipedia, Spaceflight Participant is basically just a glorified space tourist!! How sad that we spent RM30m to send this dude to space just for him to play gasing, do ‘teh tarik’ and fast in space. Imagine how many of the poor can you feed with RM30m.

And the kicker… the dude will most definately get a Datukship upon returning to earth.

RTM is the official Formula 1 broadcaster in Malaysia for 2007.

Anyone care to tell me why the Malaysian government has cared to spend millions of Ringgit building the Sepang F1 track only to have RTM show us delayed telecasts of the races? Yes, the race was covered live for Sepang… but what’s the point in only having live coverage for the Malaysian race when the other races aren’t covered live? It’s a long championship which isn’t won or lost in a single race for pete’s sake!

Malaysia is already struggling to keep the race as it is with Singapore coming up with a night street race. Bernie Ecclestone was clearly putting the pressure on Sepang when he said that the facilities are starting to look like they need a bit of fixing up.

Let’s not forget that RTM gets its commentary from the excellent team at ITV over in the UK. Former F1 driver Martin Brundle and James Allen provide an excellent insight into F1 that even Starsports can’t offer over on Astro. This is one of RTM’s trump cards, but does it recognise it?

So, if RTM keeps screening the races at midnight, how is it going to drum up support for Formula 1 in general in Malaysia? So what if it clashes with the news slot? Who cares? If I wanted to watch news, I’d go to the other terrestrial channels. It’s not like RTM’s news coverage is any good anyhow!

While we’re on the topic of F1 and RTM, what’s the thing with cutting to race highlights when the drivers are popping the champaign on the podium? Were they drunk while driving? What is it? Enlighten me… Not that RTM displays any sort of F1 knowledge in any sense of the word, they even cut the podium ceremony in Bahrain, where the celebratory drink isn’t even alcoholic!
